Secret Date

As soon as I got home yesterday, I gave Dan his Secret Date Package with directions, a coupon, and an invitation.

The coupon was for one free dinner when another is purchased at J.P. McBride's in Haverhill. We both got haddock (Dan, baked with Ritz crackers; I, fried a la fish 'n' chips). They must have been out of haddock at the moment because the man who took our order came back and said it would be an extra couple minutes while the cook seriously went to the fish market down the street to buy us some fresh fish!!

The food was amazing. The atmosphere wasn't fancy by any means, a sparsely populated, working-class pre-game hangout with a few arcade games and an intensely casual mood. But it wasn't at all dingy. The dark wood, Irish detail, and dim lighting made for a very comfortable meal. I'd give the whole experience an A+.

Then we went to a cupcake tasting at the Enchanted Bake Shoppe on Washington Street. It took us a while to find it (Haverhill makes no sense, and neither did my directions), but the wait was worth it! The featured flavor was Mom's Apple Pie. We each got a free mini cupcake in the featured flavor. It was so good (and we're such decent patrons) that we also each picked out a full-sized cupcake to take home. Dan had several dollars in his hand, but when I saw that their cute li'l petits fours were $1.25, I told him he should get out his credit card.

The cupcakes, in total, were only a little over three dollars! We got our cupcakes bagged up, grabbed some free coffee on the way out and walked down to the Merrimack River. We only stayed a short while and managed to get back to Chelmsford for the first pitch. We enjoyed our cupcakes on the couch while the Red Sox took the game by a landslide!
Peanut Butter Cuppy for Dan, French Toast for me.

Sounds like you guys had a great time! Yay for a nice date night!

And you're right... Haverhill makes no sense at all and is very difficult to drive around in. :P
